Shivani Raghuvanshi is currently a bike mechanic. She is unmarried. She is 23 years old. Her father and elder brother did not allow him to go out of the house. They believed that girls run away from home when they grow up. Due to this thinking, she had to leave her studies after 12th standard. If she was told outside the house, her father and brother would beat her up.
Meanwhile, one day a meeting was organized by the Samaan Society at the Anganwadi centre near his house. She attended the meeting and attended mechanic training. Her father and brother were greatly annoyed by her participation in the training. Despite this, he received mechanic training and joined Hero Company as a mechanic. Presently Shivani is working as a mechanic in a female mechanic garage of Indore and earns more than Rs.8000 to 10000 per month.
Seeing this effort of Shivani, now the old thinking of her father and brother has changed. Now her brother promotes the women mechanic garage and inspires his friends to get their bikes repaired here.
This is the story of Shivani Raghuvanshi. She is 23 years old and is unmarried. Shivani’s family consists of her father, mother and elder brother. Shivani was not allowed to leave the house. Because her father and brother believed that girls get spoiled when they go out of the house and run away with boys. In this condition she was dropped from school after 12th standard.
One day a meeting was organized by the Samaan Society in the Anganwadi (ICDS Center) in his locality, in which the women and girls of the locality were invited. The workers of the Samaan Society had also gone to Shivani’s house and asked her and her mother to attend the meeting at the Anganwadi center. Since the Anganwadi was very close to Shivani’s house. So she reached the Anganwadi. There she came to know that there is an organization called Samaan Society, which trains women in mechanics. She told to the workers of the Samaan Society that she wanted to take this training, but my father and brother would not agree to it. The workers of the Samaan Society said that we will come to your house and talk to them.
When Shivani reached back home from this meeting and her elder brother came to know that she had gone to this meeting, he started scolding and beating her a lot.
The next day the workers of the Samaan Society reached Shivani’s house. There were her mother and father. The workers talked to her parents, but her father did not listen and the workers returned. But the next day Shivani came to the training center without informing him. The workers said that tomorrow we will come again to your house and talk to your parents and brother.
The next day the workers of the Samaan Society reached Shivani’s house. But this time she was accompanied by Anganwadi workers, women teachers of the school and some active women of the locality. Together they all talked to Shivani’s father and brother. After listening to all these people, her father and brother agreed on the condition that Shivani can take training, but we will not allow her to do the job. The workers of the Samaan Society agreed for this for the time being and they gave admission to Shivani in the training.
During the four months of training, Shivani got the opportunity to move out of the house and participate in various empowerment training.
After the completion of the training, when she talked about taking up the job of a mechanic, her father and brother refused. But she did not listen to them. There was a fight over this and she was also beaten up. The workers of the Samaan Society then reached at her home and they talked to her father and brother, but they did not allow Shivani to get the job. But Shivani also stuck to her insistence and despite their opposition, she joined the service center of Hero Company as a mechanic. After a few months, a group of women mechanics was formed and a women mechanic garage was started by this group in the name of Yantrika Service Center. Shivani started work in this garage. Today Shivani earns around Rs 8000 per month. As this business grows, Shivani’s income will also increase.
Today her brother and father himself praise him and her brother gets his bike servicing and repair work done by Shivani at Yantrika Garage. He also helps in the promotion of this garage. For this he also distributes the cards and pamphlets of the garage in his basti. He tries to get maximum two wheeler access to the Yantrika garage and the business goes well.n
